Donors urgently needed!

Last spring and in the early summer, many Canadian Blood Service blood donor mobile clinics were cancelled because the facilities that were being used – such as community centres, churches and schools – were closed because of the COVID-19 situation. However, patients in Canada continue to need blood for cancer treatments, trauma care and many types of surgeries.

Over the summer, once additional precautionary and safety measures were implemented and these facilities began reopening, mobile clinics have been returning to communities, and in December this will include Port Dover. A mobile blood donor clinic will be held at the Port Dover Lions Community Centre, 801 St George St. Port Dover, on Friday December 11 from 2:00 until 7:00. At this time, only 20% of the donation slots are filled and so donors in the Port Dover area are urgently needed.

The Port Dover Power & Sail Squadron is a Partner for Life with the Canadian Blood Services and so we encourage our members to make an appointment to donate blood, either in Port Dover or in another convenient location in your community.

To book or change a blood donation appointment today, locate a donor centre, check your eligibility to donate blood and more, visit blood.ca, call 1-888-2DONATE (1-888-236-6283) or download the GiveBlood app available for iOS on the App Store or for Android on Google Play.

Squadron members (and their family and friends) who are already blood donors or who wish to become blood doors, are also encouraged to sign up to be one of our Partner for Life team members.

This is a one-time registration.

To join the team:

  • Register online
  • Log into or create yourblood.ca account
  • Select PFL ORGANIZATIONS from the menu
  • Add your PFL id (PORT680356) and select JOIN THE TEAM

Once registered, your past and future donations will automatically count towards our donation goal of 25 units of blood no matter where you make your blood donation!
